Write an argumentative, analytical essay that provides a close reading of the selected poem from your first assignment. Your analysis may take any focus you like, but it should make a specific claim about a specific aspect of the text. Make sure you touch on the formal aspects of the poetry. How does the poem use line breaks to affect meaning? How does the poem make use of literary devices such as alliteration, pun, irony, enjambment, metaphor, etc.? Make sure you use quotations from the poem to back up your claims! Your essay may incorporate secondary research, but additional sources are not required and should be used sparingly. If you do use secondary sources, they must be reliable, and ideally scholarly, in nature. Regardless, your essay must include a works cited page and in-text citations that adhere to MLA documentation guidelines (https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/747/01/) Please be aware that when quoting poetry you must include slashes (/) to signify line breaks in the quotations (https://owl.english.purdue.edu/ owl/resource/747/03/) The poem/work the professor is referring to will be attached in the document below.
