THE TOPIC FOR THIS PAPER IS: NON-TRADITIONAL STUDENTS IN TRADITIONAL HIGHER EDUCATION SETTINGS Part One Students will introduce the challenge/opportunity non-traditional students in traditional higher education settings and provide a well-developed background of the topic. The topic must be supported by scholarly research. This paper is NOT to be written in first person. Use third person. It is not an opinion paper, but a paper based on scholarly research. You must be able to support your assertions with valid sources. How do you know if a source is scholarly? The word “journal” in the title is a good clue! Wikipedia and .com articles are not acceptable. You may use online sources that end in gov. or edu. Blogs or Podcasts are not acceptable. Part I should follow the outline below. Be sure to read the sample paper and the rubric. This section of your paper will be assessed according to Part 1 of the grading rubric. Include a title page following the example in “Guidelines for Writing a Research Paper (APA 7th edition). Introduction At least one paragraph that introduces the topic in general. The Introduction should discuss current and relevant local, national, or global issues that need to be considered. The paragraph(s) should include citations. Statistical Trends What statistical trends are relevant for this topic? Include citations. Laws, Policies or Court Rulings You will need to cite at least one law, policy, or court ruling. Empirical Research (data collected and analyzed in scholarly journals) Discuss the research (include citations) and relate it to your topic. Consequences Discuss the consequences for learners, facilitators, providers, or society in general if this challenge is not met.
