Media based:
Laura Carpenter, researcher and author of Virginity Lost discusses the three ways that virginity loss is depicted in people’s stories; gift, stigma, or process. Using popular media (movies, television, streaming, etc.) find and analyze an example of each.
Respond to the following:
How does this depiction frame the sexual event? Are both characters on the same page? Explain.
What about the story would change had the characters viewed virginity in another way? Explain.
Do the characters discuss the experience? Before? After? How does that impact their relationship?
Do you believe this scenario is believable in terms of real life? Why did you respond that way?
Use at least two of our class materials to dive deeper into analysis of one of the depictions.
