Question: In the assigned readings and our sessions, (1) what are the major criticisms of Canada’s housing system, and (2) what are some of the recommendations for improving it? Advice: You need to keep Canada’s housing situation in perspective. In general, most Canadians are well housed. After all these decades of housing policies and programs, however, many are not and there are worrying trends causing additional harm to some households, often with racialized groups disproportionately affected, and holding back progressive realization of adequate housing for all. Thus the question (1) why is this the case (what are some of the major criticisms of Canada’s housing system that we have covered), and (2) what should be done (what are some of the recommendations for improving our housing system). Though the focus is on Sessions 9 and 10 readings and presentations/interviews, material from previous sessions is also relevant. Format: Maximum 600 words for this one answer (remember, you need not ‘use up’ most or all of the 600). Single spaced, short paragraphs, with a blank line between each. In two parts, (1) and (2) based on the question below. The two parts need not be equal in length. Include the word count at the end of the answer, e.g., (521 words) No footnotes or bibliography. You are relying on the required readings and the PowerPoints. No need to cite them. You are using your own words. No quotations. You can refer to what some authors have to say inserting, for example, “as Suttor (2016) notes…”, or at an end of a sentence inserting (Suttor, 2016).
