You must decide who your audience is first to understand how you are going to approach content. The audience and topic will be provided for you in the weekly assignment description.
Blog Scenario
You are a CEO of a large very reputable hospital located in San Diego, CA. Your monthly blog is distributed to all hospital employees through a listserv; and, is visible to the public. A goal of the blog is to educate readers about your leadership style, hospital culture, and commitment to providing high quality care to your community population, which is primarily made up of racial and ethnic minorities. Educate your readers on the high cost of healthcare in the US. Touch upon how the US compares to other countries regarding cost of care and health outcomes. Segue into a robust discussion about how the US can cut costs and simultaneously improve health outcomes to racial and ethnic minorities.
Tip: research initiatives in San Diego; look for defined approaches and success stories to reference as an example. Your recommendations can be based upon lessons learned from this example.

During your childhood, what were you taught about protecting your skin from skin cancer?

During your childhood, what were you taught about protecting your skin from skin cancer? Were there any behaviors evident in your family relative to preventing melanoma? Was sunscreen available? While at the beach or outside events, do you remember anything used to provide protection from the sun, such as an umbrella or canopy? (Just trying to get an understanding of whether prevention was important during childhood)
During your adolescent years, was there more emphasis on preventing melanoma? If so, where did you hear the messages: home, school, or health provider? Knowing how prevalent tanning beds are in our country, whether you tanned via beds or sun or chose not to, what swayed your thoughts or influenced your decision to participate or not?
Now, after completing the assignments, what information was totally new to you? Has this unit of study increased your awareness relative to the risks, self –screening recommendations, and prevention? Can you confidently identify suspicious skin changes based on the ABCDE model? Any of this information prompt you to consider preventing melanoma more seriously?

Read the case study presented at the end of Chapter 10, which begins “The elderly patient resided at the nursing home for almost a year before she died at the hospital.” (Guido, p. 183)
Did the lack of documentation in the admitting nurse’s assessment and notes affect the ultimate outcome of this case?
Was there negligence on the part of the nursing staff in the care of this patient?
What could the nurse have done differently to facilitate a different outcome in this case?
How would you decide this case?
Using the sample professional liability insurance policy (Chapter 11 p. 191-192 Figure 11-1) locate the various provisions:
Limits of liability
Declarations
Deductibles
Exclusions
Reservation of rights
Covered injuries
Defense costs
Coverage conditions and supplementary payments
Did you have difficulty finding some of the sections? Would this be a policy that you would consider purchasing for your own liability coverage? Why or why not?
Read the case study presented at the end of Chapter 11, You Be the Judge, which begins, “During an unexpected heat wave,…” (Guido, p. 195):
What provisions of an insurance policy would you consult to determine if an insurance company should pay such a claim, and what would the limits of the liability be?
Is the nursing home insurance company correct in saying that this is a professional judgment issue?
Which insurance company (the nursing home’s or that of the administrator of the nursing home, assuming she has coverage) should pay the court-ordered judgment?
How would you decide the case?

How many of us stopped eating eggs?

1) Go to Page 7 of the WHO Module Reading and Develop a SOCO – SEE ATTACHED. Using that grid, develop your SOCO based on any campaign you are interested in. The only requirement is that the campaign be public health focused. (ONE PAGE + REFERENCE PAGE)
2)Please watch the John Oliver clip- Link is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Rnq1NpHdmw . It is a perfect description of how we look at science and communicate science. How many of us stopped eating eggs? Butter? Began using copious amounts of coconut oil? This is one of my favorite clips, and while amusing, also relates to the misinformation readings you had this week. No wonder our health communication campaigns can be so confusing!
Question to be answered: Search for novel ways scientists/public health departments/others have communicated findings to the public. Were these novel ways effective or ineffective? What can we learn from these novel campaigns? (ONE PAGE + REFERENCE PAGE)
