“paper on Mark Bauerlein, Negrophobia: A Race Riot in Atlanta, 1906
The general question is this: What can we learn from this book about race relations in the late 19th/early 20th centuries?
Specifically, as with the first paper, choose a particular theme—the role of journalism, class (Black or White), politics, and so forth—and discuss what Bauerlein’s book tells us about that theme. Any reasonable theme is acceptable. Support your argument with specific details (including brief quotations, as appropriate) from the book.
Your paper should be about 1200 words. It should be written thoughtfully and carefully. It should scrupulously follow “A Few Writing Tips” (available on D2L). There should be few typos, punctuation errors, and grammatical slips; an excessive number of these writing mistakes will result in a lower paper grade.
I do NOT expect you to use any sources beyond the book itself, and you will not get extra credit for using outside sources. This is not that kind of research paper.
I do expect college-level work. Do not wait until the last minute; you will do better if you start earlier and spend more time with it.
Please use Microsoft Word, WordPerfect, Rich Text Format, or Plain Text for your submission. Please do not use Pages. Let me know if this presents any problems.”
This is from my professor and seems to be the only instructions. It has a pretty open construct. The main thing is the only source he wanted us to pull from was the author’s text.
