Marshall Goldman’s book, “What Got You Here, Won’t Get You There”

Students who have been highly success in previous academic pursuits can, at times, ‘hit the wall’ during their Doctoral Program.  When that happens, it can prompt the ‘fight or flight’ response.  For those who choose to ‘fight’ it is not always about engaging those survival skills that worked before, rather to navigate to the finish line of a Doctorate, it may require learning and developing new skills. It may also require letting go of those behaviors that do not serve you well.
Marshall Goldman’s book, “What Got You Here, Won’t Get You There” outlines twenty habits commonly found in leadership environments and provides a systematic approach to helping achieve positive change.
As a student in this Virtuous Leadership course, contemplate what has ‘got you here’, more importantly, identify what will get you there – “there” being successful completion of your Doctorate.
Now that you have completed your first few courses, and your first PBL course – this course – consider what will you personally focus on changing that will enhance your success to reach the final finish.  Write at least a paragraph or two on this topic.
