• Compose the paper in Microsoft Word.
-The review should be at least two full pages in length (typed in Times New Romans, 12-point font, double-spaced, 1” margins).
• You may choose any film (excerpt for animated features) with soundtracks by the following composers: John Williams, Rachel Portman, Hans Zimmer, or James Horner.
The paper should be organized in the following manner:
Introductory paragraph (Include an overview of the essay; also mention title of the film and the composer).
Discussion of the movie soundtrack in general. Did the composer of the soundtrack use instruments and a musical style that would have actually been heard during that particular historical, or did the composer use modern instruments and modern musical styles?
Choose at least two scenes from the movie and discuss how the music enhances or reflects the events that take place during each particular scene. Write at least one substantial paragraph for each scene, and discuss at least four musical elements for each scene. Some issues to consider: How is music used to achieve a particular emotion, action, or energy within a particular scene? Discuss specific musical elements (instrumentation, tempo, dynamics, etc.) for each selected scene. Does the music serve to move the story forward or does it function simply as “background” music? Is there music associated with a certain character? How can this music enrich the narrative even when the character is not onscreen? Are there actual performances (concerts) of music within the film itself? How do they function within the context of the film?
