As you now know, much of the Hyperpersonal theory was originally proposed when CMC was quite “lean” in its comm codes/cues. The theory pretty much sounds like it makes the assumption that all forms of CMC will lack some NV cues. Is this true – or can some have ALL the SAME NVcues as FtF would? What are the implications for this theory, then, if/when a particular tech does have those cues? Do they still apply? Would some assumptions need to be adjusted? How so?
To frame your discussion on these questions I just posed, you’ll consider in your initial post: How could CMC/tech be made even MORE hyperpersonal than it already is?
1. Create your own thread and in the subject line, identify a tactic/strategy/tool that’d potentially make things even more hyperpersonal on tech than FtF. (see your lecture for additional guidance/ideas) To consider your “solution” (no matter what you choose), you’ll obviously have to figure out what you think hyperpersonal really means (according to the theory – we don’t care about your opinion, remember); it’s not necessarily just ”more interpersonal.” Also, you’ll want to figure out if, in making things more hyperpersonal, you may actually be making them less so for others you didn’t consider. Acknowledge the limitations/bias of your tool/strategy in making things hyperpersonal – or unforeseen consequences of it.
